Sometimes LA Surprises Me
Yesterday I took the bus to my doctors appointment downtown. I got to the dash stop across from the Bonaventure Hotel and I walked to the Bank of America Plaza building. It was then, during the daytime with lots of working stiffs around, that I realized downtown Los Angeles can have its moments. That moment when you walk into a garden you didn’t know existed and find some shade to read (in front of the Bank of America Plaza); that moment when you discover a work of art by an artist you’ve actually heard of (Four Arches by Alexander Calder); that moment when you discover a new delicious restaurant (Mendocino Farms); that moment when you happen to stumble upon a new favorite spot (Los Angeles Public Library). That’s when you know it’s truly a good city at heart. And you forget for a moment about the scary hobos and the crazy bus people and you realize you’ve discovered another pocket of LA that needs some more exploring.
… until a suspicious looking guy startles you when running past, looks back when you gasp a little at the surprise and says “It’s not like I was going to fuck you or anything”
